Origin story

Home, Sweet, ____ was born in Portland, OR from the feeling of homesickness. Collette had spent a year as an acting apprentice with Portland Playhouse and had the opportunity to create a solo show as part of her cumulative project. She performed it in June 2016 and the piece was 10 minutes long, using prerecorded music written by composer Sean Skahill of Brooklyn, NY. This version was performed again in November 2017 at Dixon Place in NYC with Bindlestiff Family Circus’s Open Stage Variety Night.

Development

After being invited to perform it again in the Emerging Artist Theater’s New Work Spring Series at the Tada! Theater, Collette and Sean went back to the rehearsal studio to further develop the piece. In March 2018 they performed a 30 minute version of the show together with Sean live looping music with several instruments on stage. The full performance was video recorded and can be viewed here.
